Welcome to Spooky Compass! I’m Mary, a lover of spooky season and a good plan. I celebrate Halloween year round and build PowerPoint itineraries before group trips. Spooky Compass was born out of my attempts to plan spooky days and date nights, only to find that there wasn’t one easy place to find all the creepy coffee shops, horror exhibits, and oddity shops in a given area.
I’d search Yelp, comb through Reddit (honestly, some of the best tips came from there), and scroll TikTok, and still somehow miss great spots. So I started building a personal “Spooky Things To Do” spreadsheet, which eventually turned into a full-blown map.
While I’m not creative enough to design spooky merch or build a horror car wash, I do work in digital marketing, so I figured I could help by creating a resource that highlights the incredible small businesses and experiences in the spooky community. I’m based in Southern California, so you’ll find a lot of local content here, but I also travel often and am slowly expanding the amount of content.
You’ll see both visited and “to be visited” spots on my map, and I’m exploring more ways to shine a light on hidden gems I haven’t experienced firsthand (yet). It’s just me running this, so thank you for your patience and I’m always appreciative of suggestions!
