Spooky Shop + Horror Photo Ops

I drop by Mystic Museum every time I’m in Burbank, no matter the traffic or schedule. There really isn’t anything else like it. The front section is a shop (actually, three rooms of a shop) packed with things like witchcraft supplies, bath bombs, plushies, wrapping paper, t-shirts, enamel pins, candles… basically if you can dream it but make it spooky, it’s probably here.

Scattered throughout the store are full-sized horror figures and models that double as photo ops and decor—and yes, many of them are for sale if you have a few grand to spare and a blank spot in your living room.

Don’t Skip the Horror Exhibit in Back

While the shop alone is worth a visit, the real magic is behind the ticket counter. Mystic Museum hosts an ever-changing, themed horror exhibit in the back gallery. Entry is usually around $20 and absolutely worth it. I’ve been to three so far, 90s Slashers, Y2Kills, and Horror High Reunion, and each one was packed with clever nods to cult classics, deep cuts, and incredible attention to detail.

The exhibits aren’t massive, but what they lack in size they make up for in creative staging and pure genre appreciation. You can stay as long as you want, and there’s no rush to finish—so go wild with the selfies, videos, and lingering in front of your favorite setups.

Quick heads-up: It changes every year, so check their site before you go to make sure they’re not in-between exhibits. If you’re visiting the new exhibit and need some ideas on other spooky things you can do in the area, check out my guide to spending a spooky day in Burbank.
