Slashback’s Back (Alright) and an Immersive Horror Store

Slasher World just had its grand opening (as of writing this), and this is the spot we might not deserve, but definitely needed (and I mean that in a, “we are not good enough for this” way). It’s described as “Horror Immersive Retail and Events” as well as the “Home of Slashback Video.” If you’re asking yourself, Slashback Video? The incredible horror VHS art installation? YES. That Slashback Video! It’s back and has a permanent home at Slasher World.

So what can you expect on a trip to Slasher World?

First, I think there’s a lot more to come, so I’ll be stalking their IG for signings, events, and whatever else Kiko Bailey dreams up. On a regular day, you can visit the massive store at the front. This is where the “horror immersive” part comes in, because the shop is divided into sections inspired by our favorite horror movies. A massive Freddy glove bursting through the wall, the Scream kitchen, Michael Myers on his porch… it’s amazing. You’re shopping, you’re taking pictures, you’re living your best slasher life.

Next stop is the counter, where you buy a ticket to Slashback Video which is located in the back. Do you miss trips to the video store on Friday night? Love physical media? A fan of horror? Appreciate a good photo op? Slashback Video is it my friend. It’s like walking into a 90s video store that’s a little more horror-y. The collection itself is reason enough. I couldn’t believe some of the titles, Jack Frost, complete with the cover that changes from jolly snowman to murderous ice killer?! There’s also a rack of custom VHS covers created by local artists, and while I have zero creative talent myself, I’m excellent at appreciating other people’s, and these are amazing. Find the Jawbreaker VHS, you’re welcome. Add in posters, cardboard cutouts, and all the promo material, and it’s clear Kiko has built something really special.

There are a lot of spooky things to do in LA, and this is one of the more unique stops I’ve been to. 10/10 recommend.
